5 reasons to visit the Cotswolds this autumn

There’s something rather special about the Cotswolds as autumn arrives. The countryside changes colour, the pace slows down and cooler days bring the perfect excuse for long walks, leisurely lunches and cosy evenings.

If you’re thinking about your next escape, here are five reasons to come back and see us this autumn.

1. See the Cotswolds in all its autumn colour

Autumn transforms the Cotswolds into shades of red, gold and orange – and one of the best places to experience it is Westonbirt, The National Arboretum near Tetbury. With thousands of trees from around the world, it’s particularly spectacular during October when the autumn colour is at its best.

You could also explore Cirencester Park or take a trip to Batsford Arboretum for another beautiful autumn day out.

Afterwards, head back to Stratton House, warm up and relax over dinner or a drink.

2. Discover some of our prettiest towns & villages

One of the joys of staying in the Cotswolds is simply getting in the car and exploring.

Spend the day discovering Bibury and its famous Arlington Row, wander through the historic streets of Tetbury, visit Bourton-on-the-Water, or venture a little further to Stow-on-the-Wold.

With summer’s busiest weeks behind us, autumn is a lovely time to slow down and explore some of the places that make the Cotswolds so special.

3. Taste the Cotswolds

Autumn is made for good food – and there are plenty of opportunities to discover local produce while you’re here.

Start close to home with Cirencester Farmers’ Market, held in the Market Place on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, where you’ll find everything from locally brewed beer and seasonal produce to pies and sweet treats.

Then return to Stratton House and make food part of your stay with dinner, Sunday lunch or one of our special food and drink evenings.

4. Pull on your walking boots

Cooler days and changing countryside make autumn one of the loveliest times to explore on foot.

Take a stroll through Cirencester Park, discover stretches of the Cotswold Way, or combine a country walk with a visit to one of the area’s beautiful market towns and villages.

There’s nothing quite like coming back after a day outside, putting your feet up and letting someone else take care of dinner.

5. Slow down at the Spa in the Garden

Not every autumn break needs to be packed with sightseeing.

Leave a little room in your itinerary to simply stop. Book a treatment at our Spa in the Garden, take some time for yourself and enjoy a slower Cotswold escape.

Whether you spend the morning exploring or decide not to leave the hotel at all, sometimes doing less is exactly what you need.
